RANTS AND RAVES
The problem with this page is
I'm afraid it will be mostly rants!
These are all MY opinions like them or not.
30- All I can say is thank God the racing season has begun! Finally open wheel
unity! But of course the Champ Car leaders did what they could to get all they
could out of the deal plus screw their own teams. They're not billionaires for
nothing! F1 looks like fun again with no traction control. NASCAR even is more
enjoyable as far as actual racing with their spec car. SPEED will actually have
a bunch of World of Outlaws telecasts!
29- Diecast again! Has anyone seen those Rare Art Replica (GMP) diecast. Large
1/8 scale. They run from $2,000 to $4,000. And yet they still look like diecast!
Seams too large and parts still not cleaned up good enough. Yet these items sell
out making GMP richer and some rich guys a little dumber. If you really need an
excellent replica of a certain race car get a professional builder to build you
one for the same price or most likely less! I have two builders listed on the
Builder page and there are many more that are well known. Or better yet build it
yourself! If you can paint slightly above average and build neatly you have
already surpassed 98% of all diecast.
28- Predictions 2008. F1- Kimi again! Nascar- Jeff Gordon. IRL/Champ Car- an IRL
regular will win I'll go with Castroneves. Like to see Danica win one. Next year
when Bordais returns to Newman-Haas after a less than fun year in F1 he will win
the Championship again. NHRA TF- Tony Schumacher yet again. Must be something to
that last name. NHRA FC- Robert Hight. Ashley Force will win a race.
27- Hate to say it but the racing at Daytona was greatly improved with the C.O.T.
Unless of course you are one of those fans that like to see the "big one" wiping
out half the field.
26- The Chase still sucks, the Countdown to One is Stupid. Sorry I just can't
say this enough. Oh yeah the Car of Tomorrow looks stupid!
25- I still hate Barrett-Jackson. They raise the price of every so-called
collector car in the world. Every yahoo with a car slightly similar to a car
that just sold for 150K adds 10K to their piece of crap. Did you see the guy
that paid I think 450K for the General Lee. They made a load of those cars while
filming that show. Maybe it was the movie car. Unless Jessica Simpson comes with
the car the high bidder got ripped off. Just think of how many nice cars this
guy could have bought instead!
24- If you read SpeedTV.com you may have noticed that Tony George made
supposedly serious overtures to Champ Car about combining the two series. It's
about time. Let's face it all the stars are in IRL except Paul Tracy. If they
don't get their acts together we won't have any open wheel racing to speak of.
23- Have I mentioned lately how much I HATE the Chase for the Cup and NHRA's
Countdown to ONE!!!??? Can you imagine if Dale Sr was alive and had a huge
points lead only to lose by a handful of points after the chase? The outcry
would be huge. I actually enjoy NASCAR racing but I don't watch at all once the
Chase starts. I'll be doing the same with NHRA next year. Won't be long before
Max Mosley completely loses his mind and puts something like this in F1. Maybe
a double points race at selected tracks! AAAHHH!
22- My predictions: I did pick Kimi..I know it was a miracle but I didn't want a
rookie winning, I expected Johnson or Gordon (do I have to hear one more time
how good life is with that hot model wife and your new kid!!! Focus on your
racing or quit!) to win Nascar but I picked Harvick. I was close with Kanaan...but
congrats to Dario...the Traitor is going Cup racing, picked Boudais (no brainer)...good
luck with those Red Bull idiots, was completely surprised by Hayden's lack of
speed and Stoner's increase in speed. Rossi's probably pissed and will be real
trouble in '08.
21- Well it's been awhile. I have plenty to rant at but it has nothing to do
with racing or modeling!
20- Speaking of Montoya. CART Champion, Indy 500 winner, F1 winner, Nascar and
Busch Series winner and 24 Hours of Daytona winner. Pretty good resume.
19- Congratulations: Juan Montoya and Jamie MacMurray for their first Nascar
wins. I'm not surprised at all to see Montoya win already. Let's face it, Nascar
is probably the hardest series to win races. They now make it hard for a driver
to dominate. Dominate to me means WINS not top tens. You have more cars with a
legitimate chance to win than comprise an entire F1 or IRL grid.
18-IRL. Can't believe I'm now hooked on the series I used to make fun of
constantly. The inclusion of Andretti-Green and Penske has had a impressive
effect on the racing quality. Plus there are now drivers that everyone knows. If
only they could get 40-50 cars trying to qualify for Indy again.
17- Lewis Hamilton! Holy %^&*! I guess Ron Dennis knows more than we think he
does. It's almost more surprising to see how reliable the McLaren is, I assumed
Hamilton would be quick.
16- First of all to catch up. R.I.P. Eric Medlen. As a huge racing fan, any
racing related death bothers me. But even more when it's a form of motorsports I
follow closely.
15- Congratulations Juan Montoya and Alex Gurney for their Mexico victories. I'm
sure many will not be happy with Montoya's win but let's face it, two guys going
for their 1st win. All bets are off.....Just like Max Papis as he handed Alex
Gurney a well deserved win. I like to think Max had a problem with the car and
just didn't lose his concentration!
14- Mattel! I know I no longer carry diecast but...milking the Schumacher
legacy. Put the same car you just offered for $49, place a poorly done figurine
on a black plastic base and now charge $129-$229+ for it! Do you think these
cost Mattel more than $5 over the original version? The real scary part is
goofballs will be paying $200-$1,000 for these in two years!
13- Tamiya again! They can't release a new 1/12 kit but they can re-issue older
ones adding a little photoetch and then charge $120 per kit. Those were
collector prices for some of these only a few years ago! Take for instance the
original Honda F1 kit. It now includes aluminum funnels and photoetch (brake
discs, radiator screens) but the exhaust pipes still hang in mid air above the
engine!
12- My 2007 picks even if you don't care. F1- Realistically the champ
will come from Ferrari, McLaren or Renault. I just can't see anyone else having
a shot. That has to leave Kimi, Massa and Alonso. Eenie meenie...ahh I'll pick
KIMI. Can't believe Alonso can win a third straight in a three wheeled non wing
racer. NEXTEL- probably Gordon or Johnson but...I pick HARVICK. He's got
enough swagger for the whole damn Earnhardt family. Maybe he could bottle some
for JR? He's not afraid to say what he thinks on your off the track. I like it.
He's tougher than Stewart. IRL- KANAAN by a nose. Like to see if
Danica is the real deal or just another purty girl. INDY CAR- I want PAUL
TRACY but it will be that damn Bourdais again! MOTO GP- Of course I want
Nicky Hayden again but it will be Rossi by a landslide. NHRA FC- It will
be a Team Force car but not Ashley. I pick SCELZI. I've met him at Englishtown
and he is genuine. Can Ashley win a race? Will Kenny win a race? WoO/USAC
Sprints, Midgets and Silver Crown/D.I.R.T Mods, Whelan Mods (I pick Mike
Stefanik..again!)? Just get them on TV!
11- F1. Can't come fast enough. Will Kimi look foolish against Massa? Will
Alonso wonder out loud why he's driving an oft exploding/disassembling McLaren?
Will Lewis Hamilton wish Flavio discovered him instead of Ron Dennis? Is Renault
kidding with Fisi as #1. We all know they are hoping to groom the young
stud Kovalainen in the other car to be their next World Champion. Can
Button win another? Not without luck or with Rubino as a teamate. Webber's
career about over after this Red Bull move? D.C. I'm jealous! Wouldn't it be
great to be absolutely uncompetitive because you are past your prime yet make
millions tooling around at breakneck speed and living well all over the world.
Just think of the girls. It makes me dizzy. I just read D.C. has a new squeeze!
And what about Ralf? Jarno has made him look silly the last couple of years. I
like Ralf (the good Schumacher) but for some reason he's disappointed me
terribly. It's almost like he just doesn't give a damn. Scott Speed-
unfortunately his name is quicker than he is. Scott, please make Luizzi look bad
or you're headed to Indy Car. Williams, I would love to see them rise from the
ashes. Is Nico for real? Stay tuned. BMW looks good but I'm not hot on Heidfeld.
He's never shown me anything. Another question. Is Kubica for real? I feel he's
their only chance no matter how good that car is. The rest of the field
well...they are just that.
10- Daytona 500. It's being called one of the most exciting finishes ever. No
duh! But I'm afraid the Craftsman truck finish was even better! I'm not a fan of
freight train racing but I was very disappointed that Mark Martin didn't win it-
in a part time ride yet!
9- Once again two resin manufacturers butting heads by doing the same car. Wolf
and Ace both have announced the Tyrrell 012- every version known to man. They
have to realize they are hurting themselves and eventually the modeling
community if one of them ends up forced out of business. Can't we all get along?
I hate that line!
8- Tamiya! Can they put out a decent race car kit that is relevant to the
"world" market? How about any Lemans winner from the last ten years, at least
one F1 car each year and most of all...another 1/12 F1 kit. Stop using tooling
and/or licensing as an excuse. S27 can license their kits and they only make a
couple of hundred.
7- Speed Channel again! Barrett Jackson! How much money are they giving Speed to
put this on? Because of this show and other "reality" shows there is less live
and taped racing. I'm tired of seeing complete nitwits for example pay 70K for a
440 Plymouth Satellite...but it was one of only 5 with radio delete and the only
yellow one. Jeez that almost makes sense now! Radio delete now makes a car more
collectible? Now a Hemi makes it collectible.
6-Speed Channel. I understand why they cater to Nascar. I don't understand the
endless programming dedicated to it. I love football and baseball but I don't
watch endless programming dedicated to those sports. I don't hate Nascar. If you
haven't seen them run live you really don't realize how fast they are going.
Imagine running just about 10/10ths for 500 laps! Read the October 2006 issue of Car
and Driver. Enjoy this station while you can because every regime change equals
just a little more Nascar. Please....get rid of the reality shows!! Those I
hate!
5-Congratulations Nicky
Hayden 2006 Moto GP Champ! I thought he had no chance when Pedrosa took him out
in the next to last race. I like Rossi but he can take a year or two off from
constantly winning the Moto GP Championship.
4- Goodbye Michael Schumacher! Don't like him but will grudgingly admit he has
been the class of the field. Would probably beat Alonso in the same car with the
same tires. Very curious to see how Kimi does.
3- Red Bull. See #1. Making a fuss over two releases of 100 kits or less.
Wolf is going through the licensing process now for the RBR1 F1 cars. Maybe
licensing is the better way to go. Studio 27 has a license for Ferrari and Lotus
kits with no appreciable price increase. How much money do these people really
need? The rich keep getting richer for a reason!
2- Have a complaint? Don't be a baby and put a post on a forum. My phone number
is 845-878-4456. Call me! I haven't hunted anyone down like a dog in years.
Though I am getting a little jumpy.
1- Hugo Pratt rep calling me to let me know the Ace 93 Ligier JS39
Japan/Australia was not licensed by Hugo Pratt. I explained less than a 100
pieces would be made but he still wanted Ace to contact him. It sounded like the
licensing would just be a matter of paperwork but who knows. It never was
licensed.
